Adult Winter Reading Challenge |

Just in time for the dreary days of winter, the library is offering prizes to adults solely for reading.You do have to be a bit daring and pick up one or two of the snowy wrapped books on display. (They do have descriptions on the wrapping.) Upon your initial checkout, you will receive a bookmark with sweet treats. Everyone who completes a Book Review Form for one of the snowy wrapped books is entered into the prize drawing for a fondue pot. The reading challenges runs through February 28. Enjoy your reading!

Crafty Creations |
|
Crafty Creations is back after a brief holiday break and features a cool winter theme.January's craft is a snowy candle jar. Each participant at this month's gatherings will have the opportunity to use a variety of options to decorate a candle jar. Creative adults are invited to attend either the afternoon session at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 14, or the evening session at 6 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 27. Registration is required for the evening session. Just stop by or call the library at 937.783.3585 by Jan. 23 to register. Crafty Creations is always free, and supplies — and instruction — will be provided. |

Reading Dragons |
|
It is never too late to start participating in Reading Dragons, the library's new trading-card style reading challenge.The challenge is open to all children and teens under 18. Each participant tracks their reading throughout the school year to earn creature cards to build their set. Four new creature cards are made available each month, so keep reading to fill out your set. Pick up your reading log and cards at the front desk of the library. Homeschool Hangout |
|
The library is offering a new opportunity for homeschool students.The Homeschool Hangout will be held at 2 p.m. on the first Friday of each month. This program is aimed at all homeschool students ages 5 and up and offers them a chance to participate in STEAM-related games and activities. Each month's program will feature a different theme. Tax preparation |
|
The library is taking reservations for free income tax assistance provided by AARP. Time slots are available on Tuesdays from February 3 through April 7.
You are asked to bring the following items to your appointment, which will be in the library meeting room: a photo ID, social security card, last year's tax return, all pertinent forms showing sources of income and deductions.
Slots usually fill up quickly, so call the library at 937.783.3585 to sign up as soon as possible. |

Adult Take-and-Make |

Hopefully, you will not need to use it too much, but the library this month is featuring a cusomizable way to measure the snowfall.The January Take-and-Make is a Snowman Measuring Stick.
Each Take-and-Make bag contains all the supplies necessary, plus detailed instructions. Visit the library and take a free bag. |

Monday Night Movies |
|
Any debate about the best animated film of all time would certainly include The LEGO Movie in the discussion.If you haven't already seen the 2014 blockbuster or want to view it again, we will be showing The LEGO Movie at our Monday Night Movie at 5 p.m., Jan. 12. Several publications list the movie as one of the best animated films of all time, it has 96 percent positive reviews on the movie review aggregation site Rotten Tomatoes. The free family-oriented movie showings also include free pizza and popcorn. So, please join us for the story of an ordinary LEGO figurine Emmet, who is mistakenly identified as an extraordinary being and the key to saving the world. Storytime |
|
Children from ages 2-5 will build a foundation for reading success through stories, play and activities. And you are invited to register your child anytime for the library's regular morning storytime sessions.
Morning storytimes are separated into age groups, but we also have our popular Family Storytime from 5-6 p.m. each Monday. No registration is required. Children (and adults) of all ages are welcome to just show up and enjoy a story, songs, crafts and a light snack.
