|A COOL Library|
One of the benefits of the library being part of the Consortium of Ohio Libraries (COOL) is that you have quick access to about 400,000 items.
Please check out the online catalog to search for items or access your account online. If you add your e-mail address to your account, you will now receive courtesy reminder e-mails three days before your items are due.
Also, besides searching just for materials at the Blanchester Public Library, you may also search for items at seven other COOL member libraries. You may also place holds on those items, and we will notify you by e-mail, phone or text message when the item is ready for pickup.
The library is one of nine founding members of COOL, which was formed in 2012.
The decision to join COOL
was not an easy one, considering the library's long history of being
independent. But the many benefits outweighed any negatives as we best
try to serve our community during this period of continually dwindling
financial support from our state government.
Joining COOL will help the library maintain the costs involved in a circulation system for the foreseeable future. Moving to the Evergreen platform also puts the library in the forefront of the open source movement and gives us much more of a voice in the development of the product than we had using a proprietary system.
Evergreen was developed by several public libraries in Georgia in 2006 and is now used by over 1,000 libraries, including most of the public libraries in Indiana, several in South Carolina and by one of the largest public libraries in the country, the King County Library System in Washington. The COOL catalog is hosted and administered by OHIONET in conjunction with the member libraries.
The other current COOL members are Arcanum Public Library, Cardington-Lincoln Public Library, Community Library (Sunbury), Germantown Public Library, J.R. Clarke Public Library, Marvin Memorial Public Library, Mt. Gilead Public Library, Selover Public Library, Worch Memorial Public Library and Wornstaff Memorial Library.
